Waldorf’s Old Creative Team To Throw New Years Bash At Hotel Vancouver

Some rad news from our friends at Arrival Agency:

The creative team behind the Waldorf bring their famous multiroom experience to the Hotel Vancouver for its first New Year’s Eve party in over a decade.

Anyone who attended the massive multiroom parties at the Waldorf Hotel knows that building an indoor rink for a Twin Peaks-themed ice dance routine or erecting a 16-storey tall amusement park ride is all par for the course.

“We feel like we’ve truly outdone ourselves with this event,” says Arrival Agency’s Daniel Fazio. “We’re really excited that we found a home for our New Year’s Party at the Hotel Vancouver, and we’re hoping to make it a yearly event here. New Year’s was one of our signature events at the Waldorf and to be able to move it to a venue that is steeped in history just feels right.”

Construction of The Hotel Vancouver was completed in 1939, just in time for a royal visit from King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Built in a French château style that was popular at the time, and featuring many elegant ballrooms, restaurants, and bars, it quickly became the social hub of the city and a haven for Vancouver’s most esteemed visitors.

This is the first NYE celebration at Vancouver’s “Castle in the City” in over a decade. Five of this storied hotel’s ballrooms will host the party and each one boasts unique programming. Attendees can expect an exciting mix of musicians, visual artists, DJs, top caliber performers, and so much more. The entertainment lineup is expansive and includes something for all musical tastes. Upwards of 1000 attendees are expected.

The hotel’s majestic Pacific Ballroom will feature a full-scale Vegas-style variety show. Emceed by Reynosa, Mexico’s ineffable El Garzita, it will include comedy, courtesy of our city’s premier improv troupe The Sunday Service; dance, by world-renowned dancer and choreographer Joel Hanna; a bevy of beautiful French cabaret dancers; and an All Star House Band led by Kurt Dahle of the New Pornographers. The House Band includes some our of country’s finest players and singers, such as Colleen Rennison of No Sinner performing the Dusty Springfield Songbook, and Jessica Lalonde, hot from her sold-out opera performance at the Arrival Agency’s FUSE event at the VAG, singing incredible renditions of classic Torch songs. Vancouver outfit the Ballantynes, delivering one of their trademark energetic and soulful live sets, and psychedelic synth-pop band Synthcake round out the guest musical acts.

Three rooms of dance music feature deep house wunderkind Kyle Hall from Detroit, the godfather of West Coast Electro, Egyptian Lover from Los Angeles, and hometown favourites house DJ/producer Neighbour, Redbull 3Style champion Hedspin, Cherchez La Femme, and MGH.

Two of the city’s most acclaimed artists will also put their mark on the event: photographer Rodney Graham and multimedia provocateur Paul Wong. Rodney Graham will select from his vast collection of vinyl . Paul Wong is curating a multimedia installation entitled Endless Kind Of Time, a program of cinematic moments and video art from around the world that examine notions of suspended disbelief, fast-forwarded realities, and altered states of perception.

Discounted early bird tickets go on sale today, with Dinner, VIP, and Room Packages to be available soon for Vancouver’s biggest and best NYE celebration. It will be a party worthy of this hotel, which holds such a distinguished place in our city’s history. Tickets and details after the leap…
