Traffic reports not working polling windows machines.

Post by africanw »

Hi,

I have cacti running on Linux with Version 1.2.21. when I poll Linux, firewalls and switches which are all on 10Gbit connections the snmp traffic reports poll and work.

When I add a new Windows host it shows the interfaces to add but after I add the graphs never show data. We have a VMWARE cluster that has all the servers.

Focus on getting snmpwalk to work from the command line. Issues are either:

1) wrong snmp creds
2) firewall rules
3) remote agent down
4) general lan/wan connectivity

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I should have posted that all other graphs on the windows devices work such as disk, cpu & memory just not interface traffic. All graphs work on all other devices such as Linux, switches and firewalls.

It is just the interface traffic graphs that won't work on Windows using either 64bit or not.

Thanks

Windows hosts do not support 64 bit counters. If they are high traffic servers, you may have to use one minute or less polling.

It's a sad statement about Microsoft, and the story has not changed in 20+ years. That's how long snmp there has been on life support.

Fair enough am used to just monitoring Linux machines in previous roles.

Any other way to monitor the traffic or is cacti not the tool for this?

Thanks

Just use the 32 but counters. There is e wmi plugging to get the wmi counters, they are not 32 but, but closer to 40 bit decimals.

Though you can get the counters that way, you will have to write your own templates using the data in the cacti database if you that way.

Templates are not that difficult to write though.
