MODBUS support

Is there ever going to be MODBUS capability with Cacti. I currently monitor hundreds of SNMP devices, but I have a real need to monitor hundreds of Generators that only speak MODBUS and don't have budget to spend for spendy MODBUS -> SNMP Gateways. Are there other Platforms that would perform this task?

You could either write a script to gather data, or use a plugin to gather it asynchronously. It's not too complicated.
