This episode with Tarik McAllister was inspiring! Tarik got his early exposure to real estate as a kid while working with his dad, who was a general contractor. At a young age, he knew that he wanted to be a real estate investor. He worked and saved as much as he could during college which enabled him to buy his first property in cash. He continued buying in cash for his first few years until he learned how to use leverage.
The turning point for Tarik came when he learned about the BRRRR (Buy, Rehab, Rent, Refinance, Repeat) strategy. He refinanced the first property he ever purchased, used the money to buy more properties and kept repeating. He also learned how to use hard money and private lending which helped him scale even faster.
Eventually, Tarik was able to leave his job as a teacher in 2017 to focus on investing full-time. In this episode, we talk about using hard money lenders, scaling your portfolio, future plans and more.

1) Start with what you know. If buying cash is what you know, go for it. If getting a mortgage is what you know, go for it. Just start and learn more strategies over time.
2) When you get a piece of information, make sure you execute. Don't spend too much time thinking about it. You'll get better as you go.
3) If you're taking private money or hard money, it's important to make sure you complete your project on time. You should also have some built in cushion in your budget in case things don't go as planned
