[HOWTO] Install and configure the Net-SNMP agent for Unix

Hello.

I have trueUnix 64 machine here and i am trying to activate the snmpd one it.

I have no problem configuring it and restarting it.

or other varios ways, but my remote machine still cant get access to it, via snmpd(cacti machine). I have "SNMP error "

# /sbin/init.d/snmpd start
chmod g+w /var/esnmp...
umask 02...
# ps xa|grep snmpd
 18755 ??       S        0:00.07 /usr/sbin/snmpd
  8774 ttyp2    S  +     0:00.01 grep snmpd

Seems like everything is working.


Itryd netstating and its not in the list, but its in the services list. if i do
netstat -a, then i would have it one the list. as so:

udp        0      0  *.snmp                 *.*

Anyways any help would be great.

For those who are trying to build Net-SNMP under AIX 6.1 :

• it seems Net-SNMP 5.5 is not compatible, I've only managed to build 5.4.2.1
• for every file including libperfstat.h, you have first to include sys/protosw.h
• when running "make install", 2 libraries are not installed properly : libnetsnmphelpers.so and libnetsnmpmibs.so

Here's a Net-SNMP 5.4.2.1 tarball (compiled with GCC 4.2.0 under AIX 6.1 TL4 SP2)

You'll also need this libgcc RPM
