Hmmm... maybe you missed the second step?

First/outer layer: 12 inch square paper marked and cut at 4" marks
Second/middle layer: 10 and a half inch square paper marked and cut at 3.5 inch marks
Third/inner layer: 9 inch square paper marked and cut at 3 inch marks
Yep. That's where I got lost. $hitness!!!

Sorry. :?

So you can see now that you just adhere the little tabs you cut on the cover to the long sides to get the cover to look like... a cover.

That is the next step.  For those of you ready:

ScrapGoo wrote:Start at the lower right corner and cut up to the intersection. Do NOT cut the horizontal line. Rotate the paper 90 degrees and again cut up to the intersection on the vertical line. Rotate another 90 degrees and cut the third cut. Rotate one more time and make the last cut. Score along all remaining lines.  Image
OOPS - I knew I shouldn't have done this step on my own :)

I use my ATG gun but I would say you want to use any kind of dry adhesive... like the roller types?  ::giggles:: Not a glue gun though.

Yeah - mine's going to have some fancy strips of paper going all the way around (you know...as a design element!)  :winkb:

Embellishment: Now is when you can start to get creative! Each page can be:
  • covered with patterned paper
  • covered with a picture
  • inked
  • corner rounded
  • cut into shapes (one corner off, two top corners trimmed, circular edge, border punched, etc.)
  • matted for journaling
The sky is the limit for your embellishing. If you are planning on inking or cutting your edges it may be easier to do that before you adhere your three layers together in the center. When you are covering each side of the pages try to keep in mind if you would like some solid, lighter pages for journaling and try to vary the patterns in an eye-pleasing way. I cut my papers ¼” less on the sides than the measurement of the page (for instance if an outer page is 4x4 I cut my paper to 33/4 x 33/4) but again this is entirely up to you.   Really, just have fun with it! You can also embellish the center square (I like big flowers there!) and the inside of the cover, and of course the outside of the box as well.

Something hand held... like adhesive tape in a roller that distributes a line of sticky

Awesome Jess.  Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together.  I made one from a kit last year and didn't keep measurements.  Now I can make some more.
