How to Start a Home Remodeling Business Black Real Estate Dialogue

    • Investing

DC Casey is a Remodel Specialist for REI, a board member of a real estate firm, an investor and an author in addition to being a husband and father of three kids. DC was exposed to real estate at a young age through his grandfather who was a well known investor and developer in the community.

In this episode we discuss what led him to real estate as a career, how to manage the remodeling process, managing the budget for a remodel as well as a unique business model for remodeling homes that can be beneficial for both you and the homeowner.

Highlights

1) Plan ahead for things to not turn out as you originally thought they would. Build a 10-15% contingency fund into your budget.

2) When it comes to vetting contractors for a project, always have several options for every trade. Even if you have someone that you work with repeatedly, things happen in life and you always want to have a backup option you can call in an emergency.

3) Do not just look at real estate as an investment. Look for situations where you can help people and both make money in the process.
