The gambling industry is using third-party data providers to provide data such as; 👉 Age 👉 Income 👉 Debt 👉 Credit info 👉 Insurance details and much more data A digital marketer who has betting companies as his clients revealed… “We could also combine segments, ie we could target users who are on less than £25k a year, own a credit card and have three kids, via these providers.” Third party data provides that refer customers data to a betting company charge a fee. Liz Barclay updated The Micro Business Alliance Steering Group on the Fair Payment Code. For decades, many of us have been campaigning for local, regional and national governments not to buy from, accept tenders from, contract with, fund (including furlough) or license any organisation with 45 to 120 days, 'take it or leave it' payment terms. They must prove that they #PayIn30Days or less ALL their bills ALL the time. Once the FTSE350 companies are all signed up to this Fair Payment Code, £30 billion cash will flow twice as fast in England, and #PayIn30Days or less will become the typical payment culture as it was in the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s. We business owners have monthly bills to pay, and an average of 60+ days of waiting for payment leads to debt and depression. As reported on TechInvest Magazine website The Market Limited (ASX: MKT) took a major step forward today with the announcement of Gumtree Payments, a new in-platform payment feature that promises to change the way users buy and sell on Gumtree Group. Through a strategic partnership with global payments giant Adyen (AMS: ADYEN), Gumtree will soon allow users to complete transactions directly within the platform. The integration, slated to go live in December 2024, will support major credit cards along with Apple Pay and Google Pay, addressing a long-standing need for secure, streamlined transactions within the Gumtree marketplace. This partnership aligns Gumtree with Adyen’s technology, which powers transactions for leading global brands like eBay, Uber, and H&M, marking Gumtree's leap into a fully-fledged digital marketplace experience. According to The Market’s CEO and Gumtree Managing Director, Tommy Logtenberg, the addition of Adyen’s payment capabilities not only modernises Gumtree’s user experience but aims to boost customer confidence in transactions. “The ability to transact safely online is top of mind for everyone, and this partnership will give users greater confidence when it comes to buying and selling on Gumtree,” he said. Another insightful article from the guys at Regulus Partners. However, it is the case that the current tax position may in fact be far worse for the industry. For bookmakers (OTC and online) and online casinos gaming taxes are also paid on free bets, bonuses and free spins. Given that bonuses awarded by online casinos can sometimes equate to 10% of GGR then this further increases the effective tax rate for operators. For land based betting and gaming companies and any online operators established in the UK, there is also irrecoverable VAT to factor in to calculations. A further reduction to margins. From a personal perspective I think there is a sense of irony that a Labour donor is funding the lobbying and that they are highlighting the fact that online operators do not contribute to jobs. When RGD was introduced in 2007, under a Labour government, it was discussed that if the rate was set at 2.5% (the rate in force for spread betting) then it could encourage operators to return to the UK from offshore locations (they were there primarily for licensing reasons as pre-2007 you could not operate in the UK). A low tax rate could have also encouraged innovation and growth. In addition to more years of companies being fully established in the UK, paying UK gaming taxes (albeit at a lower rate), employment and other business taxes, the UK could have become a greater centre of expertise for the industry, creating jobs, retaining talent and generating greater contributions to the economy. Given that the current consensus is that any further increase in gaming taxes could result in a damaging and self-defeating tax raid - I wonder what the position could have been had a different approach been taken in 2007. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but if you look at how other territories such as Gib, Malta and the Channel Islands have benefitted you do think "what if .....?"
