  • Multispecialty care: If we uncover an underlying health condition during infertility testing, such as diabetes or obesity, we quickly refer you to the care you need. As part of Lancaster General Health, you have access to our wide network of specialists.

What to Expect During Your Infertility Evaluation

During infertility testing, our reproductive medicine specialists evaluate both you and your partner. We ask you questions about how long you've been trying to get pregnant and if you've had infertility treatments in the past.

We do an in-depth assessment your physical, sexual and reproductive health, looking for factors that could be affecting your fertility such as:

  • Abnormal menstruation
  • Alcohol or drug use
  • Family history of infertility
  • Obesity
  • Past surgeries or medical treatments
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Smoking
  • Stress

Your fertility check may include blood tests, urine tests, imaging exams or minimally invasive procedures, which differ for men and women. We do most tests right in our office. If you need specialized testing, such as genetic testing or a biopsy, we can easily refer you to a specialist for a streamlined experience.

Does Insurance Cover Fertility Testing Costs?

Some insurance plans cover fertility testing costs. Before your appointment, our financial advocate will contact you to discuss your insurance coverage and other aspects of paying for fertility care. Well make sure you're aware of any out-of-pocket expenses.

Should I Do an At-home Infertility Test?

At-home infertility tests use a sample of blood, urine, semen or saliva and send it to a lab for analysis. However, it's important to remember that at-home tests only measure certain factors such as hormone levels or sperm count - they aren't evaluating your overall health, considering your medical history or examining your reproductive anatomy. You need the expertise and experience of trained fertility specialists for an accurate diagnosis.

Infertility Testing for Women

Fertility testing for women includes hormone blood tests, ovarian reserve tests and imaging exams, such as a sonohysterogram. Our fertility specialists perform these tests right in our clinic for your convenience.

Infertility Testing for Men

Fertility testing for men includes hormone blood tests and a semen analysis. A semen analysis evaluates the number and quality of your sperm. If results of these tests are abnormal, or you have an underlying medical condition, we may refer you to a urologist or radiologist for more specialized testing.
